All Permit Holders

• Parking permits are valid only for the period of time specified on the permit and for the parking spaces intended unless otherwise posted.
• Parking permits may not be altered in any way.
• A parking permit is valid for use only by the person who purchased the parking permit.
• You may register up to two (2) license plates to your parking permit.
• Only one vehicle may use a parking permit each day.
• The permit holder is responsible for all citations issued to vehicles linked to their permit.
• Each person may possess one valid Sacramento State parking permit at a time. However, employees and students may also purchase an additional adhesive motorcycle permit if desired.
• It is important to familiarize yourself with the various types of parking permits Sacramento State offers and the locations in which they are valid.
• Charges are for the use of parking space only. We assume no responsibility whatsoever for loss or damage due to fire, theft, collision or otherwise to the vehicle or its contents however caused.
• A parking permit does not guarantee a parking space in any given area at any given time.
• If your vehicle is registered in the State of California, the State requires that two plates be displayed, one in the front and one in the back of the vehicle (California Vehicle Code 5200). If you have a back-facing plate only, please park head-in so that our parking officers can see your registered license plate. Failure to park head-in will result in a parking citation.
• All vehicles on campus must be in operable condition.

Daily Permits

Daily parking permits are valid in student parking lots. Daily parking permits may be purchased at the UTAPS office or from one of the daily parking permit machines located throughout the campus for $8.00. The parking permit machines accept $5 bills, $1 bills, Visa and Mastercard. A 2-hour permit is also available from the machines for $4.00. Additionally, a daily permit or 2-hour permit may be purchased through PayByPhone. Daily Permits Continued (Visitors)

Visitors may purchase a daily parking permit. Machines are located in student Lots 7, 8, 9, 14, 5th floor of Parking Structure 1, 3rd floor of Parking Structure 2, 1st and 3rd floors of Parking Structure 3, 3rd and 4th floors of Parking Structure 5 or at the UTAPS office inside the Welcome Center.

Note: If a daily parking permit machine is not functioning properly, a daily parking permit must be purchased elsewhere on campus. Daily parking permits are not refundable.

Weekly Permits

Weekly parking permits are available to Sacramento State employees and students. Weekly parking permits may be purchased in one (1) week increments. Usage of the weekly parking permit is the same as employee, student, or residence hall semester parking permits. Weekly parking permits are not refundable.

Student Permits

• For NON-resident students: During the Fall and Spring semesters, student parking permits are valid in student parking spaces.
• For resident students: North Village and Hornet Commons student parking information.

Employee Permits

• Employee parking permits are valid in employee as well as student spaces, unless otherwise posted.
• Note: If receiving 12 paychecks per year, most employees may pay for their parking permits on a monthly basis via payroll deduction.

Carpooling Permit

• Carpoolers may share the price of a parking permit and may park in preferential designated carpool areas.
• Employee and student parking permits may be exchanged at no cost for carpool parking permits, or purchased directly, at the UTAPS office.
• A carpool consists of two or more people per vehicle, who must arrive in a carpool space together.
• Carpool spaces are located on the first floors of Parking Structures 1 & 3 and floors 1-5 in Parking Structure 5.
• Carpool spaces are enforced until 11am in Parking Structures 1 and 3. After 11am, these spaces are enforced as student spaces. In Parking Structure 5, the EV/Carpool spaces are enforced as such all day, every day.

PS5 Clean Air, EV, or Carpool

To be eligible to use these spaces, the Clean Air Vehicle (CAV) must display:

• A valid CAV decal from California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or be an eligible vehicle on the California Air Water Resources Board list.
• A valid Sacramento State parking permit.

Electric Vehicles (EV), also known as plug-in electric vehicles, derive all or part of their power from electricity supplied by the electric grid. EVs include AEVs and PHEVs and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs).

Motorcycle Permit

A motorcycle-only adhesive parking permit must be placed in an easily visible location on the fender, fork or gas tank. Placing the adhesive motorcycle permit elsewhere on the motorcycle may result in a parking citation. This adhesive permit is valid only in motorcycle spaces.

As an alternative to purchasing a motorcycle-only parking permit, people who drive a car/truck and ride motorcycles may purchase a "regular" vehicle parking permit. This permit allows a motorcycle to be parked legally in a motorcycle OR regular vehicle parking space.

Permits for Person with Disabilities

At Sacramento State, each parked vehicle must have a valid parking permit.

• To park in disabled parking spaces on campus, a valid Sacramento State parking permit and disabled person placard or license plate must be displayed.
• Loading zones are intended for active loading and unloading and are not considered to be parking spaces.
• Disabled placards and license plates are not valid in loading zones.

Emeritus/Retiree Parking Permit

• Some Emeritus/Retired employees are eligible to receive a courtesy Emeritus parking permit provided that they meet the requirements outlined in the University’s Emeritus Status policy.

• Emeritus employees who return to the campus after retirement to work for compensation are required to pay to park during that time.
• Emeritus parking permits are valid in Employee and Student parking spaces.

• Available at the University Transportation and Parking Services (UTAPS) office in the Welcome Center.
• To obtain an Emeritus parking permit you will need to bring photo identification. Recent retirees will also need to bring their retirement letter from the University President.

• Emeritus parking permits are for the exclusive use of the permit holder and may not be transferred to others.
• Emeritus parking permits are issued annually, and are valid from July 1 through June 30.

Note: UTAPS has discontinued mailing information about Retiree Parking Permits. Automatic emails are sent to permit holders prior to expiration. This information will now be communicated via the Retirees Association’s website and monthly emails to retirees.

Non-Teaching Faculty

Faculty members in a non-working capacity, who come to the campus during the Summer, may request a courtesy non-teaching employee parking permit.

• This permit is intended to accommodate the occasional visit to the campus to facilitate academic endeavors.
• Faculty members who are in a working capacity during the summer are required to purchase a parking permit for that period of time.

Timed Parking Spaces

Timed parking without a valid Sacramento State parking permit is available throughout campus.

• Timed parking spaces may be used by the same vehicle only once in each parking lot in a 24-hour period. This means, for example, that you may not park in a 30-minute parking space and then move your car to the space next to it for another 30-minutes.
• Timed parking with a valid Sacramento State parking permit required; is also available throughout campus. Please read timed parking signs carefully.

Overnight Parking

Overnight parking is defined as parking between the hours of midnight and 4:30am. With the exception of North Village and Hornet Commons permitted vehicles in assigned parking lots and approved campus vehicles, overnight parking and/or camping is prohibited at Sacramento State.

Lost, Stolen, or Counterfeit Permit

If a parking permit is lost or stolen, please report the loss to University Transportation & Parking Services (UTAPS). UTAPS will record the parking permit as lost or stolen and will enforce the parking permit as such. UTAPS does not replace lost or stolen parking permits.

Upon reporting a lost or stolen parking permit, UTAPS may authorize the purchase of a replacement parking permit at a reduced price. It is a violation to display a lost, stolen, or counterfeit parking permit and may result in a parking citation being issued and/or other Sacramento State corrective action.

Load Zones

Passenger load zones are intended for the immediate loading and unloading of passengers. Waiting for passengers is not permitted and parking officers reserve the right to warn or cite a vehicle for waiting.

Load zones that are not specifically marked as passenger load zones are intended for the active loading and unloading of equipment. Parking officers closely monitor load zones and reserve the right to warn or cite a vehicle if no activity is seen in 30 minutes.

Note, load zones are not parking spaces, even for vehicles displaying an ADA placard or license plates.

Off-Peak Parking Periods

Off-peak parking period is defined as:

• Monday-Friday 4:30pm to midnight during the Fall and Spring semesters.
• Saturday, Sunday, campus closure holidays 4:30am to midnight.
• Summer, Winter intersession, Spring Recess and Finals week Monday - Sunday 4:30am to midnight.

During off-peak parking periods, most student and employee parking spaces are open to all Sac State parking permits with the following exceptions:

• Off-peak parking periods DO NOT apply in the employee spaces located around the North Village complex and the employee spaces in Parking Structure 1 (PS1). An employee parking permit is required at all times in these locations.
• Off-peak parking periods DO NOT apply in the North Village complex residence hall spaces in Lot 2 and the 5th/6th floors of Parking Structure 5 (PS5). A Residence Hall parking permit is required at all times in these locations.
• Any specially marked parking space, such as, (but not limited to) BZ, Speech & Hearing, Administrative, requires a special permit at all times.
• During off-peak parking periods, carpool spaces in Parking Structures 1 & 3 are enforced as student spaces.
